Nippon Central beats Pacific in 3 games to advance...up next the World Champion Cubbies

As Pete says...the series was fun.

August 28: Central jumps out to a 4-0 lead after 3, mainly due to Seiya Suzuki's 3-run blast in the first.  After that, they hang on for dear life, and Pacific chips away at the lead, but never quite gets even.  Central hangs on, 5-4.

August 29: Another first inning lead on a homer, this time by Yamada, and it's 2-0 Central after 1, but only on one hit for quite a while.  Central keeps a lead through 5, and a tie through 6, despite being 1-hit through 7, mostly by Kodai Senga, who went 6 allowing a hit and two runs.  Pacific takes a 3-2 lead after seven, as Central draws three walks in the bottom of the inning, but can't score.  Insurance runs in innings 7-9 make the final score 7-3.  Balanced offensive attack led by Hiromi Oka and Hideto Asamura, who both go 3 for 4.

Auguast 30: Looks like it's all over early as Pacific jumps out to a 6-0 first inning lead.  Nomura is left to struggle through it for Central, and he shuts out Pacific in innings 2-5.  Central starts chipping away in the 4th, and by the end of 6, they trail by just a run, 6-5.  A three-run 7th gives Central their first lead of the day, and it's all over but the shouting.  Four different players for Central go long, and every Pacific infielder commits at least one error, as they finish the day with as many errors - 7 - as hits.  Final score is 9-6, Central, but only 5 of the 9 runs are earned.  American transplant Scott Mathieson pitches 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the save.
