GAME 2: “Clay molds relief spot into victory”

GAME 2
Sanchez vs Porcello
Red Sox 3, Blue Jays 0600747261_MCa_BOS_0547

Tempers boiled over as Sahx starter Rick Porcello went head hunting.  After hitting Donaldson and Tulo the latter and the hurler got into fist-a-cuffs, which saw both shown the door.  This put the Saxh in a tenuous position needing to fill 6 1/3 innings of game with the pen.  In a genius manuever Sahx manager Gary Hinton tapped embattled 5th starter Clay Buchholz and said, “here’s your chance to show us what you’ve got, big fella”.  Buchholz was more than just competant.  He in no way shape or form looked liked the washed up 31 year old who was 8-10 with a 4.78 ERA during the regular season.  The 10 year veteran took the mound and in 6 shutout innings looked more like vintage Clay from back in the 2013 season when he was 12-1 with a stingy 1.74.  Buchholz finaly ran out, of gas and had to give way to Ziegler, after walking Barney with 2 out.  Brad Ziegler, who only had 4 saves in the regular season needed 12 pitches to strike out Russell Martin to end the game.  The Sahx took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd when Dustin Pedroia hit one over the Green Monster.  Buchholz would nurse that lead until Xander Bogaerts hit a 2 run shot in the bottom of the 8th to make it 3-0, which is how it ended.

Red Sox lead series 2-0
