GAME 3: “The Grandy-man can”

GAME 3 - Citi Field
Strasburg vs Matz
Mets 5, Nats 2

532691021_CJa_NYM_295The series moved 4 hours north on I-95 and the LIE to Flushing with the Amazin’s in a must win situation in this pivotal game 3 matchup.  Mucho tension as the teams exchanged solo runs knotting it at 2 after 7 1/2 innings of play.  By the bottom of the 8th both starters were lathering up with a bar of no decision.  Travis d’Arnaud led off the 8th by striking out vs Nats reliever Kelley, but the Metsies aren’t about small ball, they forgo OBP in favor of HR power and with one swing of the bat Asdrubal Cabrera launched the go ahead shot.  Kelly and company were rattled as Neil Walker singled and Kelly Johnson walked.  When PH Jay Bruce went down swinging it looked like the damage was done.  That’s when the Grandy-man (Curtis Granderson)ripped his 3rd hit of day to score Walker and make it a 2 run lead.  For good measure PH Justin Ruggiano singled home Johnson to hand closer Jeruys Familia a 3 out cushion.  The Mets closer needed just 12 pitches to set the Nats down in order to close out the contest.

Nats lead series 2-1
